Photo-topography
Photo-topography, 2012
Photograph transferred to polyspan. Pigment print on gelatin coated bone.
81 x 101 cm / 12 x 15 cm
In this project the photographs are traced on a 3D machine that converts the real image into a 3D polyspan object. The result, extremely fragile but beautiful, is a kind of topography of urban landscapes, with indentations and bursts of polyfoam that grow according to the scale of gray, black or white gradations of the negatives, predetermined in the plotting machine. The use of the photographic support translates the idea of ruins, the fragility of the urban fabric and the impermanence of buildings in particularly complex social contexts. For me, this work consists of an investigation on the forcing of the limits of photography. These objects, exhibited on custom-made plinths with wooden and methacrylate covers, are accompanied by the photographs printed on bone that I use as a starting point and documentation of the process.
