With a strongly conceptual substratum, Garaicoa selects certain ruined sites, places that have fallen into disrepair due to time and citizen indifference, to carry out a curious action that has archeology, architecture and sociology. It is not a noisy intervention, a bombastic performance; on the contrary, the artist inserts himself in this devastated place with the intention of passing a subtle message to passers-by. In this piece the artist rescues the plate of a Havana watchmaker’s shop in a state of total abandonment, in the manner of a restorer, in an operation of material, urban and memory salvage.
